After years of playing as a kette in Jugger, I’ve had the chance to try out a wide range of kettes — from the early chain models I started out with long ago, to today’s tape-based versions, which are now required under the rulebook. Throughout this whole process, I’ve experimented with kettes I made myself as well as those built by other manufacturers.
Over the years, talking with other kette players has been key to understanding different opinions and preferences. That feedback, combined with my own experience, led me to design the kette I’m presenting here today. To get there, I carried out an in-depth study of materials along with extensive testing. My main goal was to create an extremely lightweight chain without compromising on either padding or durability — and to achieve that, we used kevlar fiber. The cage, meanwhile, was designed to be heavier, which helps maintain better shot inertia while still preserving protection and functionality.
Distributing the weight this way has real consequences on gameplay. When you throw the ball, it comes out with real power and doesn’t lose momentum, since the lightweight chain doesn’t hold the movement back. This not only improves throwing effectiveness, but also gives a smoother feel during play. Thanks to an improved ball-change system, deformation of the cage at the point where it connects to the chain is also reduced.
