The relay race is an ideal activity for improving coordination and speed in Jugger while promoting teamwork. Combined with the sweeping technique, it creates a drill where the dynamic is simple but intense: each player must sweep the jugg in a straight line to a marker cone, then return to the starting point to hand off to the next player in line.
Objective
The goal is for the first team to complete the course with all its players to win the race. This not only improves individual sweeping technique but also strengthens cohesion among players.
Rules
- Start: All teams line up, with the first player in each row ready to go.
- Course: Each player must sweep the jugg in a straight line to the cone, without veering off course.
- Handoff: Upon reaching the starting point, the player hands off the jugg to the next teammate, who starts their run immediately.
- Finish: The team whose members all complete the course first wins.
Training Benefits
- Speed and endurance: Keeping a steady pace while carrying the jugg in a straight line is a real challenge.
- Communication: Coordinating handoffs promotes quick communication between players.
- Teamwork: Strengthens trust between teammates, a key factor for success in Jugger.
Variant: Circuit Relay Race
In this variant, the course becomes a small circuit instead of a straight line. Each player must carry the jugg through a marked path, staying within its boundaries.
- Marked circuit: A course is marked on the ground (using cones or tape) that players must follow. The circuit can include turns and narrow sections to increase difficulty.
- Boundary restriction: If a player takes the jugg outside the path’s limits, they must return to the last safe point and continue from there.
- Handoff: Upon returning to the start, the player hands off the jugg to the next teammate in line, who must complete the same course.
- Finish: The team that completes the circuit with all its members first wins
