The Joust

Playing Field

  • A space of roughly 10 x 30 meters.
  • Each team lines up single-file at one end of the field.
  • The confrontation takes place at the center of the field.

Team Formation

  • 2 teams, each with the same number of players.
  • Players from each team step out one at a time toward the center to clash with the rival advancing from the other side.

Game Objective

  • After the clash at the center:
    • The winner of the confrontation keeps running toward the rival team’s line.
    • The loser quickly returns to their own line.
    • At the same time, the next player from that team steps out to face the rival who keeps advancing.
  • The winning team is the one that gets a player all the way across the opposing team’s starting line.

Incentives

  • The team that loses each round can perform a small physical penalty to boost engagement:
    • 5-10 push-ups
    • Squats
    • Squat jumps
    • Burpees
  • This makes it a perfect game for:
    • Wrapping up the warm-up with intensity.
    • Or adding an extra dose of fatigue midway through the session, working on decision-making under tiredness.

Capacities It Improves

  • Reaction time
  • Running speed and explosiveness
  • Weapon technique while running
  • Field reading and anticipation
