Objective:
Improve reaction time, active defense of the jugg, and management of tight spaces. This drill also builds quick decision-making and the ability to anticipate the opponent’s movements.
Rules:
- Mark out a circle 1 to 3 meters in diameter with a jugg at the center.
- Two Pompfers take part per field, one from each team.
- The goal is to prevent the opponent from sweeping the jugg and, if they attempt it, to strike them before they succeed.
- Kettes (if present) must help defend, covering the area to prevent the jugg from being swept.
Drill Progression:
- Easy (3-meter circle):
- Both players are inside the circle.
- A variant can be added where players aren’t allowed to leave the field, increasing difficulty.
- Kettes play from the perimeter, with one leg inside the circle. They can step in fully to attack, but must always move around the outside of the circle while defending the jugg.
- Medium (1.5 to 2-meter circle):
- Players start with one leg inside the circle.
- They can step in fully to sweep.
- Kettes attack from outside but can only place one foot inside the circle to intervene.
- Hard (1 to 1.5-meter circle):
- All players stay outside the circle.
- They can only place one foot in to sweep or attack.
- Kettes may not enter the circle at any point.
Benefits:
- Improves reaction ability and body control in tight spaces.
- Develops timing for attacking and defending around the jugg.
- Reinforces the concept of territorial dominance around the scoring zone.
- Encourages coordination between Pompfers and Kettes under pressure.
