The Fly is a reaction and strategy game in which, turn by turn, a randomly selected player must face off against an opponent from the other team on their own territory. This drill improves speed, technique, and combat skill in Jugger.
Objective
The goal is to develop reaction speed, agility, and skill in one-on-one confrontations, while also building technique and tactical awareness under pressure.
Rules
- Initial Formation: Players are split into two teams, A and B, positioned at opposite ends of a rectangular field roughly 15-20 meters long. Each team’s members are numbered from one up to the total number of players on their team.
- Alternating Turns: The game runs by alternating actions between the two teams. On each turn, only one team sends a player onto the opposing side of the field.
- Number Call: The referee or coach calls out a random number. The player from the corresponding team whose number is called must step out and run toward the opposing team’s line.
- Choosing an Opponent: Upon reaching the rival team’s line, the player must choose an opponent by clashing their weapon against theirs. Kette players indicate their choice by calling out the opponent’s name.
- Confrontation and Escape: As soon as the opponent is chosen, the confrontation begins. The player’s goal is to make it back to their own line without being tagged or “taken down” by the opponent, while the opponent tries to stop the player before they get back safely.
- Team Switch: On the next turn, the opposing team (if Team A went first, now it’s Team B) repeats the process.
Training Benefits
- Speed and reflexes: Reacting quickly to the number call improves speed and agility.
- Direct confrontation skill: Practicing opponent selection and evasion sharpens combat control and technique in one-on-one situations.
- Strategy and teamwork: Encourages coordination and readiness among players, who must stay alert each turn and be ready to act.
